Aerosol Transmissible Diseases (ATD) - Annual Report

Program Description

Aerosol transmissible diseases (ATD) are diseases that can be transmitted by either: 1) inhaling particles/droplets; or 2) direct contact between particles/ droplets and mucous membranes in the respiratory tract or eyes.

Cal/OSHA requires employers to develop an exposure control plan/infection control procedures to prevent work-related illness from exposure to pathogens present in aerosols (suspension of fine solid particles or liquid droplets in air or another gas).

There are three departments or groups at SFSU subject to the ATD standard:

  1. University Police Department and other “referring” employers
  2. Biology Research and Academic Laboratories (i.e., Microbiology, Zoonotic research)
  3. Student Health Services

CY 2023 Update
