Other Accomplishments:

  • In 1990, I started as a lab bench researcher at UCSF under the supervision of Dr. Stephen DeArmond and performed histology and immunohistochemistry in support of the discovery of prions, and the diagnosis of neurological conditions such as CJD (Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, Alzheimer).  My work was recognized as a vital contribution to the 1997 Nobel Prize Award in Physiology or Medicine awarded to Dr. Stanley Prusiner and I also co-authored several scientific publications.
  • In 2006, I assumed the role of a Lab Operations Manager/EHS for a biopharmaceutical company developing drugs to treat neurological diseases and disorders.
  • In 2010, I managed a diverse customer base of hazardous waste generators representing a $1.5M revenue base.
  • In 2012, I completed the certification program in Hazardous Waste Material Management at UC Santa Cruz Extension.
  • In 2017, I joined SF State and supported the Environmental Compliance Program.
  • I am a seasonal runner:  Kaiser Permanente 5k in 2009, Nike Women’s Half Marathon in 2009,  Allstate Hot Chocolate 5k in 2019 and She is Beautiful- Santa Cruz, 5k in 2019

Other Accomplishments:

  • I started as an EHS intern in 1988 in an aerospace industry manufacturing facility. After graduation, I landed a job as an industrial hygienist/site safety officer for a hazardous materials cleanup and emergency response contractor.
  • I moved to the Bay Area in 1993 to work as an EHS Manager for International Paper at a corrugated box manufacturing plant.
  • In 1997, I came to SFSU and became the COSE Health & Safety Specialist, a newly created position, and became a member of campus EH&S in 2016.
  • I went through the Technical Writing Certificate program at SF State. 
  • Learned how to use online course development software, such as Articulate Storyline to create EHS courses suited to the online environment.
  • I learned how to use Drupal to create and edit the EH&S website

Hobbies:

  • Playing with my dogs, reading romance novels and mysteries, watching archeology, science fiction, fantasy TV shows and movies, and eating the wonderful variety of food available in the Bay Area.
