Air Quality Permit Program
The Air Quality Permit program requires SFSU to obtain permits for equipment that has the potential to emit air pollutants above certain thresholds, comply with permit conditions, and maintain accurate records of emissions and compliance activities.
The Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) regulates the emissions of potentially harmful pollutants into air and issues several types of permits: Authority to Construct (ATC), Permit to Operate (PO), and Title V for major stationary sources.
By law, an air quality permit is required for several scenarios which include:
- Installing equipment that may cause air pollution
- Modifying existing permitted equipment
- Moving permitted equipment to a new location
- Installing emission control equipment
For example, the university must apply for a permit for each emergency generator.
