The Biology department has a permit to treat medical (and biohazardous) waste using autoclaves to sterilize these materials.
Training Requirements
The California Medical Waste Management Act (MWMA) requires training for operators of autoclaves, and other treatment technologies, to ensure their safe and effective use.
Personnel must complete autoclave operation and safety training to obtain and keep authorization to use the Biology autoclaves. The autoclave training program is managed by the head of the Biology Department BIS Facility.
CY 2023 Update
Annual autoclave training was completed as required in CY 2023.
- Only those persons who completed the training have become authorized users of the autoclave.
- The list of users is maintained by the Biology department.
