Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - Annual Report

Program Description

Cal/OSHA’s Personal Protective Equipment standard requires employers to conduct hazard assessments to determine if hazards are present which necessitate the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

PPE must be able to provide adequate protection against the hazards for which they are designed and required PPE must be offered at no charge to employees.

  • Facilities services has a completed a hazard assessment to define PPE needs for their activities.
  • Laboratories use RSS' LHAT software to conduct hazard assessments in the Fall and Spring semesters. 

 

CY 2023 Update 

Information on personal protective equipment was posted on the EH&S website in 2023.

In CY 2023 the frequency of required Lab Hazard Assessments (LHATs) was increased from annually to once in the fall and once in the spring to capture changes in lab hazards that accompany semester changes.  

According to data from the Lab Hazard Assessment module and tracked on a spreadsheet:

  • In Spring 2023: 39 LHATs were certified out of 84 lab groups – 46%
  • In Fall 2023: 42 LHATs were certified out of 84 lab groups – 50%
